Considering Breast Reduction?

(we think Queen Latifah looks great before and after surgery. we just wish she’d had a fitting before doing it – you can see in the before pics she is not wearing the right size. we wonder if she would have gone through with it, had she been wearing great bras in the correct size)

A recent article in the Daily Mail brought up a great discussion here at secrets from your sister… and we thought we should share it with you:
“Women considering breast reduction surgery could save themselves thousands of pounds – by buying a new bra instead.
Doctors say many female patients who resort to plastic surgery to ease back pain could achieve the same result by wearing underwear that fits.
Investing in new lingerie could save them up to £5,500 – not to mention being a lot more fun than recovering from a major operation.
Dr Alex Clarke of The Royal Free Hospital in North-West London, which routinely offers breast-reduction patients a free bra fitting, said: “Women have the opportunity to be properly fitted by an expert bra fitter when they visit the clinic.
“This may be the first proper fitting they have had. To date, 100 per cent of those fitted have been wearing the wrong size.
“This results in the weight of the breasts being carried by the shoulders rather than the chest and contributes to back pain.”
In Canada, to our knowledge, they do not offer you a proper bra fitting when you head in for a reduction consultation. But they should! It is a fantastic idea. Since this is not offered here, we recommend you come and see secrets sassy fitting sisters and spend some time finding your real current size, and then try wearing it for a few weeks, before you go for a consultation.
It is important to note that sometimes a reduction is the way to go – it could be a psychological thing, or a physical thing for the individual. We’d never say to do it, or not do it. What we will say, and what we feel is important about this article is that a bra fitting is a very important first step. Before making the decision to drastically alter your body – especially if the reason is for back, neck and shoulder pain, be sure to be properly fitted in a supportive bra first, to see if that will ease the discomfort. In our experience, it will, and drastically. From that starting point, you can make an informed decision on your body and any surgeries you might be considering. We also feel it is extremely important to be refit after a surgery. In our experience, while doctors tend to do a great job with the look and shape of the reduced breast, they are really out to lunch when it comes to informing patients of their ‘new size’. We’ve experienced many before/after reduction clients who tell us their doctor said he’d change them from a ‘38dd to a 34c’ which is, well, impossible, unless he is also removing ribs and part of your back. We aren’t saying we know more than doctors about surgery, but we do know more about bra fitting! Arming yourself with this knowledge is important so that you won’t be disappointed with your first bra shopping trip to purchase a 34c off the rack. Remember – size is just a number – and the number is not important, it is how you feel that matters.
Who knows? Maybe your fantastic new bra will change the way you feel about your body and perceive it. That has happened for so many of our clients who have come for a fitting, and then decided not to have surgery!

I came in last week forthe first time and I am already noticing increased confidence, better posture and less back pain with my new bra! I guess wearing the proper 36G instead of the 38D makes a big difference!
Thanks Secrets!

Definitely agree, I was contemplating getting a reduction but when I wear the proper fitting bras I change my mind.
