White Bras

At secrets from your sister… we do not often carry white bras in stock. We have quite a few reasons for this – one important one being that we find skin tone is generally much more practical, as it is invisible under white tshirts, while white bras show through.
However, this does not mean that we don’t love white lacy things! Because we do. It doesn’t take a Madonna moment for us to bust them out either – though that can be one reason. Heck, when you wear colourful lingerie as often as we do, a white bra and boyshort set (like Freya’s Jolie, now in stock, pictured above) can seem downright subversive!
Here are some pointers and thoughts on white underthings we’d like to share!
*White is in! Wearing white is no longer for only babies being christened or brides walking down aisles. As the Globe and Mail points out, white does not necessarily have a weight-adding effect. The same rules go for white as any other colour – wear something that fits great, and you will look great! We do suggest wearing nude lingerie under a white dress if it is unlined or very thin, but we do like the idea that white is not only bridal – both for dresses and underpinnings. Some thoughts on wearing white under white below…
*White can accentuate a tan and can add oomph to your curves! Just make sure your self tanner is completely dry before putting your white things on.
*White can be a challenge to keep clean. Never wear a white bra under a black, red or other dark colour – wear it only under light colours and always wash alone or with other whites.
*We don’t think Oxyclean is ideal for delicate items, but it does work wonders on getting those yellow stains out of whites. Be sure to use sparingly – and be sure to hand wash, let soak for only a few minutes and rinse extremely well. All of that said, we’ve tried it ourselves and it made our white bras look brand new.
*Please don’t wear a white thong or panty under your white pants. It will show through, which is not a great look! Wear beige! However – you can wear a white bra under a white top, if the occasion is right. It will show through, but perhaps that is the desired effect, and it can have great results when done well:

*White lace can sometimes look cheap. To avoid this buy better quality underwear and unusual lace patterns or textures. We also love eyelet lace, white cotton, spiderweb looks and white mesh!
*White just feels great to wear in the summer months. We think white straps are cute to show off under a nautical look – picture your lacy white strap under a navy blue and white striped off the shoulder tunic. Also picture that with a mai-tai on a cruise ship, and now you are really having fun!
*Feeling racy? Wear white in low lighting and no one will be able to keep their eyes off of you! White glows in dimly lit spaces, especially if there is some moonlight to go with it! Not only that, it says “innocence and purity” – which is especially racy if there is no intention of staying innocent and pure for very long.
*Thinking wedding white? It doesn’t all have to be corsets and bustiers. Imagine the Freya set pictured above worn with white stay ups! Yowza. How about white cotton briefs with a pony tail, bobby socks and white tank? Comfortable and sexy, in a ’she’s-wearing-my-shirt’ kind of way. White also looks great with any pale colour, pink, yellow, blue….
Almost all of our basic bras are available in white, though most must be special ordered. We find most customers prefer this, especially with white styles – it ensures your whites are as pure as they can be when first purchased. Below pictured are two staff favourites – Freya’s Rio and Pollyanna, which are both available for ordering in white!

We are pleased to announce we have some Freya and Chantelle white bras in stock for summer! These brands suit larger busts.
Try white on for a change and see yourself in a whole new light.

Definitely agree that a white bra is something awesome for warddrobes, I had no clue about white under white though…I’ll keep that in mind.

[...] are very divided on this issue. Some don’t like the look at all, and others swear by it. We’ve talked about it before, and some of you are still not sure. Some of us aren’t either! But as lingerie lovers, [...]
