Brabomination: Met Gala Edition

We’ve heard from you that you enjoy our Brabomination features. Well, we love writing them – in a painful sort of way – so here’s a special edition in celebration of the recent Met Gala.

If you aren’t familiar with this event, the Metropolitan Institute of Art in New York has a Costume Institute. This Gala is in support of the Costume Institute, so the ensembles celebrities wear are typically a bit outside of what you might see on your average red carpet. It’s fun, it’s flirty, it’s artistic, and best of all, anything but boring.

First up, is Chloe Sevigny:

Ok, we’re kinda torn here. We’re guessing you might think we should suggest a low back or bra back attachment that would help her hide the back of her bra. And of course, we can do that! But…we kind of love this. We love the punk rockesque edge of wearing your bra – especially the  less attractive bra back – completely visible. It comes across as a bit of a snubbed nose at those who might say that it is inappropriate – and on that level, we love it. Also, somehow, it works with her shoes. We ourselves will show off our bra back in a t-shirt of a similar cut. That said, we aren’t at a Gala at the Met in NYC when we sport that look, and this is a fantastic dress and some might say the bra back takes away from it.  Since Chloe’s bra back indicates her bra is properly fit (the back sits level going across her back) she gets bonus points. However, Chloe is certainly not shy, and isn’t someone we haven’t seen braless before. Our recommendation if she wanted to go braless?  Bristols6 Nippies. The lace of the nippies would blend with the dress, making her appear totally braless under this wonderful item.

Next up, another gal we hate to Brabominate, Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Maggie has chosen to wear a corset topped dress. This style of dress is typically forgiving to all figures, but this particular dress, which is probably one of a kind and mind-blowingly expensive,  isn’t the best fit. We’d recommend a visible black bra with this dress. Crazy, right? Hear us out: A visible black bra with a opaque cup would give Maggie the extra oomph she needs to fill out this dress. If she chose a lacy edged demi cup, such as a delicious Empriente or Simone Perele style, the lace that might peek out above this dress would seem totally intentional, like a saucy lingerie-as-outerwear look. Best of all, a demi cup would have straps that would sit beneath the straps of the dress. It would be very Madonna:

Finally, we have to mention Christina Hendricks again. We’re sorry.

We just Brabominated her recently. And we totally love this dress.

And we have to mention it not because of the fit of the dress – it’s the fit of the bra. We’ve had brides get properly fitted bras and then not need their wedding dresses altered. Ask us about the magic we can work with strapless bras for almost any size! What Christina needs is a bra fitting, and this dress would immediately look better. Gosh, the shocking blue with burgundy and her hair is fab!  She could go with a brightly coloured bra, a strapless, or something “everyday”, like fantasie’s Rhiannon:

As you can see from the pic, this fitted bra gives amazing cleavage. And your boobs are sitting in a…less…uncomfortable place.
