Plumtastic for Fall

September 24th, 2009

With each new season comes the new colour and style trends. For a few years plums and purples have been ‘uptrending’ and becoming more popular, and this fall, the regal colours are everywhere!

We often get asked if wearing a one shoulder, off the shoulder, deep v or wrap style tops are really only for the smaller busted gal. Of course not! In fact, these looks are flattering to busty gals. And you don’t even have to go strapless to make this look work. Lingerie colour trends follow fashion!

Check out Elomi’s “Cleo” in beautiful plum, and imagine it paired with the great tops pictured….

Showing off pretty bra straps is fun! These tops could be paired with any of our fantastic strapless options, but why limit yourself? Showing off your pretty plum straps is fun, and looks totally intentional – by which we mean to say that it looks as if you planned the outfit that way, not that you settled on showing your bra with that top because you had no other options!

As Seen On TV

September 9th, 2009

We have noticed a new infomercial on TV recently advertising a similar product to the one pictured below, the embrace. The embrace is carried at both secrets locations – one of the many unique bra solutions we offer. Don’t be shy! Feel free to ask any question of us – even “hey, do you have those bra strap thingies from TV?”  There is a good chance we will – or offer a superior solution!

The thing is, when you buy the version from TV, you get six, and they come in a large cardboard box. Seems a little excessive! All of that plus shipping and handling…why bother with six? You only need one!

The embrace bra strap solution is clear, so it will match and be discreet with any bra colour. It is a simple solution to hide bra straps under racer-back tanks and other shoulder-revealing garments.

According to People magazine, “It’s easy to use, comfortable and ingenious.”

Here’s a handy guide to using the embrace.

Dressing from the Inside Out.

July 23rd, 2009

There is so much pressure out there to dress a certain way, look just right, dress for your shape, and so on. We’re even feeling a touch guilty this week for talking about VPL. We know there are more important things for a woman to be worried about; her career, politics, her children, world hunger, and so on.

The reality is, however, that wearing just the right thing on just the right day can really make a woman feel fantastic. Dressing should not be about attracting people or fitting in – it is all about dressing to make yourself feel confident! I know I always feel more self-assured when things fit right, aren’t bunching up and express my personality.

My favourite Monday pick me up that I like to employ to bash away the blues is a little something we like to call “Dressing from the Inside Out”. This can refer to a lot of different things – slips, layers, fits, tricks. But today we’d like to touch on the secret you have on under your clothes. It is a secret you share with yourself – unless you choose to share it with someone else!

Matching your undies to your clothes!

Fashion trends go in the same cycles as lingerie trends. Colour palettes are determined in advance by designers and trend-forecasters who help select the colours that they know you will want in the next few months. This is done well in advance of a season so all the designers have a chance to become familiar with what the hot colours will be.  Then fabric designers work in those colours, then fashion designers and lingerie houses use those fabrics, and stock appears on store shelves. Presto, a colour trend!

At the moment pastels are making a comeback, purple is in, and lime green is the colour trend that just won’t die! It became popular a few years ago but keeps going strong. With the huge 80’s revival that is going on, neon brights are back and lime green still works with that trend!

It is likely that your favourite shades to wear are also available in lingerie. Last summer I was delighted to obtain my favourite bra of all time (Freya’s Rio) in hot red. I was inspired – I don’t wear a lot of red. Ok, maybe I’m a fanatic, but it was easy to find hot red tank tops, hot red cover ups for the beach, hot red earrings…you get the idea. And I found I felt amazing wearing a hot red tank over a hot red bra and undies! Who needs pants?

This summer, we suggest finding a great match for Freya’s Retro Plunge in Lime Gingham! (Pictured above and at top) It’s a fantastic bra that fits well,  is smooth under most things, has fun straps to show off, is a fantastic colour, and best of all, sits very low between the boobs to create wowza cleavage. All of that, and it offers great support in a broad range of sizes – up to a G cup & starting at a 28 back! Great for summer tops and flirty dresses, it is also a great every day bra that is available as a basic too.

The best part is, you feel great even if no one ever sees it!
