Rack of the Week: Kate Middleton

May 3rd, 2011

Ah, wedding season is upon us. Did you get up early to watch the Royal Wedding? We did! And we’ve got some observations and tips for you about our favourite Rack of the Week, Kate Middleton.

What we love most about Kate’s look is that her bustline was what we call a “perky” shape instead of rounded. This is a more uplifted silhouette and is achievable with strapless bras, perfect for many challenging wedding ensembles. It is more contemporary and offers a more defined shape. Trust the British to be ahead of lingerie trends! This shape provides a slimmer appearance from the front as well.

If you like the perky shape, we suggest:

For smaller busts: Jezebel Strapless

or Piege Bonded Strapless

For larger busts: Panache Smooth

or Panache Evie

All four of these fantastic strapless bras offer multi-way removable straps, look invisible under your clothing and offer Kate’s fantastic shape! While Kate may have had a built-in bra (many wedding dresses do) if you wish to replicate her look with a lovely lace top, strapless summer blouse or less structured wedding dress this spring, be sure to try one of these styles.

Since a lot of wedding dresses don’t require bras, the excitement about bridal lingerie can be had in the other items you’ll wear on your special day.  Thigh high hosiery with crystals, pearls or beading would be a stunning surprise. We are carrying a lovely Marie Jo garter belt in white (as well as black, pictured) which would be a perfect wedding item.

If you are an offbeat bride, maybe the black works for your wedding day too!

Kate’s sister Pippa also sported an uplifted silhouette with perky bust line, but what gathered the most attention was her posterior in that stunning white gown she wore. We don’t have a “posterior of the week” but if we did we’d give it to Pippa. Pippa chose to deal with the oft-discussed “VPL/VTL” issue by wearing  a full-back knicker with high waist and perhaps a control panel at front. This is a trendy look of the moment that is inspired by retro-styled lingerie companies, but this look is not just retro, it’s extremely functional under challenging garments like white dresses as well. Not only the most comfortable choice, it is also the most appropriate choice to wear under a white dress as it will appear invisible yet opaque.

If you want to replicate her look,  we recommend the Prima Donna Perle High-Waist slimming knicker! These stunning bottoms will offer a totally seamless and smooth look under the white dress, keep the tummy tucked offering a slim line and won’t show or pinch.

As you can see, they can be quite sexy too!

Whatever your challenge when it comes to figuring out what-to-wear under your wedding dress, summer wardrobe or body-skimming outfit, be sure to start with a great foundation garment. A well fitting strapless bra and smooth knicker will help you to feel and look your best in your fancy clothes! Yes, strapless bras can be comfortable and do not have to feel as if they are falling down. The key is wearing the correct size.

At secrets from your sister, we will help you to find the right size and style to suit your shape. Hope to see you soon, Cheerio! xo SFYS

You’ll be Green with Envy

March 9th, 2011

Last December the staff here at sfys had a lovely dinner party to celebrate the holidays. We played silly games to win prizes, drank vino and toasted to another successful year. One of these games required everyone at the table to tell something about themselves, including, among other things, if they could pick only one bra as their favourite, what would it be? The overwhelming majority picked Empriente’s Lola. Even gals who don’t fit into Lola. Even after much protesting along the lines of “Ohhh, just OONNNNEE???”  and “but I want to pick one that is basic and one that is fashion!” the staff for the most part decided this was their one-and-only. It’s that lovely! It is truly a “fitters fave”. This bra style is extremely popular among customers too! The luxury and detailing are second to none.

Our winter fashion colour blueberry was a hit! And we are delighted to announce our spring fashion colour has arrived!

Empreinte’s Lola is available for spring in Tilleul! For those of you who don’t know French, tilleul translates to “lime tree”. To us the tone is less key-lime-pie and more pistachio gelato, but the name is lovely either way. The trim details are a lovely pinky-mauve and this combination truly evokes springtime!  We feel  tempted to wear this on St. Patrick’s Day and demand people kiss us!

Kidding aside we are delighted to have a lovely green bra. This isn’t an every-day run-of-the-mill colour. This unique shade of lace and detailing with high end finishes speaks to the quality and upscale craftsmanship of Empreinte.

We have
D34, E-G 30-40 as well as a Maxi Brief and Brief to match.

Also newly instock is Chantelle’s Cachemire. We’ve received the sizes E38, F32, G32-36 and H32-34, with more to come very soon. In addition we have restocked this bra in the wireless version. This is a new basic and will be available for reorder!

Chantelle Cachemire is a like a sassy businesswoman in pinstripes. With tone-on-tone vertical stripes on the lower portion and pretty lace details on the upper cup, this might just become your everyday bra.  This is the black bra that will take you from day to evening, just like a great black blazer.

Below we pair it with two fab skirt suits and how we imagine we might wear these from day-to-night. The addition of a pretty scarf and some vivid red lips takes these office-appropriate looks and makes them ready for a night on the town. This is the bra you can wear that whole stretch of time and never adjust even once! You’ll love the feeling. Hence the name Cashemire!

In Like a Lion….

February 22nd, 2011

March is just around the corner and Mr. Groundhog said that Spring is too. We love the change in seasons because that means loads of new merchandise!

Speaking of in like a lion, out like a lamb, we’ve received a new shipment of bras from The Little Bra Company.

In particular we are thrilled to now offer a wedding-appropriate option!

littlebra-lucia-convertible

This new style is a sister to Lucia named Little Lucia Convertible! It almost sounds like a Beach Boys song, doesn’t it?

If you are the bride or bridesmaid, or just wearing out that pretty halter number you bought at deep discount in January, you’ll feel like a beautiful beach goddess in this bra.

You can wear it with a variety of different style tops and dresses and hide the straps. Racerback tanks!? Halter Necks?! Hello!

We’ve also replenished our stock of Lucia, the black push up bra that many of our customers already know and love:

This bra is so great! The deep plunge/push up combination is a winner. We love the lace overlay on the cups! It works great with deep-v neck tops and wrap around styles.

Little Bra Company styles are available in 28-32 backs, A & B cups. For a certain customer there is  no better style. We love that a company is focussed on a certain customer and tailors their line just to them.  As the website states, the line was created to offer a product to a petite customer who wants extra oomph without the use of saline or silicon.

In larger cups, we just received Empreinte‘s Roxane in Biscuit. This delicious colour variety is from their spring collection and is a delicate pinky-beige hue that is truly delightful. You may own or have tried this bra before in black or violet but this fashion tone is truly parfait! for spring as it will all but disappear under light garments. Available in E-G cups, 30-38 back.  Here’s a little sneak peek for you!

This colour variation is a fashion style so if you love this bra be sure to snap it up before it sells out, we won’t be able to reorder it. We’re sad too! It is so lovely.

Ok, winter, we’ve had enough. Mr. Groundhog, we hope you were right! Bring on the warm weather, light tops and spring wedding season. We’re ready!
