Rack of the Week: Bodysuit Edition

October 19th, 2011

We’ve been receiving some fantastic new bodysuits into the shop, and we’re excited to share some of them with you! Our fitter Regan is our fantastic model!

Inspired by the recent bodysuit trend, as seen on Rihanna, Beyonce and GaGa to name a few, Regan has really made the look her own.

Pairing this pretty lacy body suit from Princesse Tam Tam with a sheer blouse and sleek dark denim, she’s shown us that you can take this lingerie staple and dress it down for a casual, yet sexy, day to evening look.

Bodysuits are great for people who want a long and lean appearance, as they tend to camouflage and smooth out problem areas. They provide the look of a tight, tucked in shirt without the bulk of a camisole or blouse. A bodysuit can also transition well from work to a date. Wear a lacey bodysuit with a pencil skirt and a blazer for the day, and ditch the blazer for a gauzy top at night.

Here are some more great streetwear examples of looks to try with a these versatile items:

Here’s Regan in another great look, again from Princesse Tam Tam.

The body suit look works on a variety of body shapes and sizes! This fall at Secrets we are carrying bodysuits from Princesse Tam Tam, Empreinte, Mimi Holliday and Simone Perele, which means women of many sizes are able to wear this look!

We would love to see how you work your bodysuits! Tweet them at us @secretsFYsister or post them on our facebook fan page!

Regan wears them so well. Here’s one more, paired casually with great green shirt. This look is a great mix of casual and sexy with a peek of lace lending an intriguing edge to the outfit!

Looking forward to fitting you this fall, xo sfys

Rack of the Week: Kate Middleton

May 3rd, 2011

Ah, wedding season is upon us. Did you get up early to watch the Royal Wedding? We did! And we’ve got some observations and tips for you about our favourite Rack of the Week, Kate Middleton.

What we love most about Kate’s look is that her bustline was what we call a “perky” shape instead of rounded. This is a more uplifted silhouette and is achievable with strapless bras, perfect for many challenging wedding ensembles. It is more contemporary and offers a more defined shape. Trust the British to be ahead of lingerie trends! This shape provides a slimmer appearance from the front as well.

If you like the perky shape, we suggest:

For smaller busts: Jezebel Strapless

or Piege Bonded Strapless

For larger busts: Panache Smooth

or Panache Evie

All four of these fantastic strapless bras offer multi-way removable straps, look invisible under your clothing and offer Kate’s fantastic shape! While Kate may have had a built-in bra (many wedding dresses do) if you wish to replicate her look with a lovely lace top, strapless summer blouse or less structured wedding dress this spring, be sure to try one of these styles.

Since a lot of wedding dresses don’t require bras, the excitement about bridal lingerie can be had in the other items you’ll wear on your special day.  Thigh high hosiery with crystals, pearls or beading would be a stunning surprise. We are carrying a lovely Marie Jo garter belt in white (as well as black, pictured) which would be a perfect wedding item.

If you are an offbeat bride, maybe the black works for your wedding day too!

Kate’s sister Pippa also sported an uplifted silhouette with perky bust line, but what gathered the most attention was her posterior in that stunning white gown she wore. We don’t have a “posterior of the week” but if we did we’d give it to Pippa. Pippa chose to deal with the oft-discussed “VPL/VTL” issue by wearing  a full-back knicker with high waist and perhaps a control panel at front. This is a trendy look of the moment that is inspired by retro-styled lingerie companies, but this look is not just retro, it’s extremely functional under challenging garments like white dresses as well. Not only the most comfortable choice, it is also the most appropriate choice to wear under a white dress as it will appear invisible yet opaque.

If you want to replicate her look,  we recommend the Prima Donna Perle High-Waist slimming knicker! These stunning bottoms will offer a totally seamless and smooth look under the white dress, keep the tummy tucked offering a slim line and won’t show or pinch.

As you can see, they can be quite sexy too!

Whatever your challenge when it comes to figuring out what-to-wear under your wedding dress, summer wardrobe or body-skimming outfit, be sure to start with a great foundation garment. A well fitting strapless bra and smooth knicker will help you to feel and look your best in your fancy clothes! Yes, strapless bras can be comfortable and do not have to feel as if they are falling down. The key is wearing the correct size.

At secrets from your sister, we will help you to find the right size and style to suit your shape. Hope to see you soon, Cheerio! xo SFYS

Rack of the Week: Venus Williams

May 28th, 2010

From the Associate Press:

Venus Williams’ tennis dress cheers lace industry

PARIS — When Grand Slam champion Venus Williams stepped onto a French Open court in a see-through black lace dress with a red-trimmed top, the beleaguered lace industry let out a cheer.

Williams’ corset-like outfit — reminiscent of a 19th-century Parisian cancan chorus costume — startled many sports fans and prompted wolf whistles and catcalls. But it also intrigued fashion insiders, and lace designers are now hoping Williams’ bold ensemble might boost their game.

“Seeing a tennis woman of Venus’ caliber dolled up in lace and resembling more of a figure skater will hopefully revive the industry at a time when French lace makers are going out of business one after the other,” said Isabelle Tartier, director of Paris-based Frank Sorbier, one of the few fashion houses that still uses lace.

The lace industry better enjoy this while it can. Williams said Friday that once she leaves the French Open the dress will be “retired.”

Williams designed the dress and has run her own fashion line Eleven since 2007.

“Lace has never been done before in tennis, and I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time,” she said after her victory over Patty Schnyder on Sunday.

Williams’ burlesque outfit, with its tutu and frills, didn’t do much to disguise her skin-tone underwear and its “illusion of bareness,” as Venus described. That illusion — suggesting that she was naked under the lace — is what set tongues wagging and photographers snapping wildly at her muscled, taupe-covered derriere.

“What’s the point of wearing lace when there’s just black under? The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely for me a lot more beautiful,” Williams said.

Marcellous L. Jones, editor of Fashion magazine, agreed.

“I thought she looked sublime,” he said.

“Her mix of cancan and pompom girl look brought cheer and entertainment to a tournament that has become dully predictable. I think it’s great publicity for Roland Garros and great for the female tennis players who have become sidelined by the men,” he said.

We love it!! What do you think?
